What is Transformer model?

A transformer model is a neural network design that processes text or other data by weighing how each part of the input relates to every other part, using a mechanism called attention. It is the architecture behind nearly all modern large language models and many image and speech models.

Why it matters for your business

Knowing that most AI tools share this architecture helps you compare models on cost, speed and accuracy rather than on labels, and explains why their strengths and limits are often similar.

Example

A company evaluating two contract review tools learns both run on transformer models, so it tests each on its own agreements to compare accuracy before buying.
