What is Microsoft SharePoint?

Microsoft SharePoint is a Microsoft 365 platform for building team sites and intranets and for storing, organizing and sharing documents with version history and permissions. It also stores the files behind Microsoft Teams channels, so much of a company's working content often lives there.

Why it matters for your business

SharePoint is often the largest source of a company's internal knowledge, which makes it a common data source for Power Apps, Power Automate workflows and AI search over company documents.

Example

An HR team keeps policies in a SharePoint library, and a Copilot Studio agent answers employee questions by searching those documents and linking to the right page.
