What is Serverless computing?

Serverless computing is a cloud model where you run code or use managed services without provisioning or managing servers, and the provider scales capacity automatically and bills for actual usage. Servers still exist, but patching, capacity planning and idle costs become the cloud provider's responsibility.

Why it matters for your business

It lowers operating overhead and cost for workloads with uneven or unpredictable traffic, since you are not paying for idle machines or for staff time spent maintaining them.

Example

An online store runs its order confirmation emails as a serverless function that wakes up for each new order and costs almost nothing during quiet overnight hours.
