What is Online marketplace?

An online marketplace is a platform where many independent sellers list and sell products or services to buyers, while the operator handles discovery, payments and often trust features like reviews. Unlike a single-brand store, the operator usually does not own the inventory and earns commissions or fees instead.

Why it matters for your business

Businesses can sell on existing marketplaces to reach new buyers, or build their own to connect suppliers and customers in a niche. Each path needs different integrations, catalog data and order handling.

Example

A regional platform connects local equipment rental companies with contractors, handling search, booking, payment and payouts to each rental company after its commission is deducted.
