What is Payment gateway?

A payment gateway is the service that securely sends card and other payment details from a checkout to the payment networks and returns an approval or decline. Examples include Stripe, PayPal and Authorize.net.

Why it matters for your business

The right gateway affects checkout speed, fees, fraud protection and which payment methods customers can use.

Example

An online store adds Apple Pay and buy-now-pay-later options through its payment gateway, and mobile checkout completion rises.
