What is Data mart?

A data mart is a focused subset of an organization's data, organized for one department or subject area such as finance, sales or marketing. It is smaller and simpler than a full data warehouse, and is often built from one, so a team gets the data it needs without wading through everything else.

Why it matters for your business

Data marts give teams faster, simpler access to trusted numbers for their own area, which shortens report development and reduces the load on central data systems.

Example

The finance team gets a data mart with general ledger, budget and cost center data drawn from the company warehouse, so monthly reporting no longer depends on exports from several systems.
