What is Subscription commerce?

Subscription commerce is a business model in which customers pay on a recurring schedule, such as monthly or yearly, to receive products or services automatically. It requires recurring billing, plan management and tools that let customers pause, skip, change or cancel their subscription.

Why it matters for your business

Recurring revenue is more predictable than one-off sales and makes retention as important as acquisition. Easy self-service management and failed-payment handling directly affect churn.

Example

A coffee roaster offers deliveries every two or four weeks, lets subscribers skip a shipment or swap blends from their account, and retries declined cards before pausing an order.
