What is Product roadmap?

A product roadmap is a high-level plan that shows the direction of a product over time, listing the major goals, features or themes a team intends to deliver and roughly when. It communicates priorities and intent, and unlike a fixed project schedule, it is expected to change as the team learns.

Why it matters for your business

A roadmap aligns leadership, users and the development team on what comes next and why, which makes budgeting easier and helps explain why some requests are deferred.

Example

A SaaS startup's roadmap groups the next two quarters into three themes (self-service onboarding, a Power BI integration and a mobile app), each tied to a business goal.
