What is Penetration testing?

Penetration testing is an authorized, simulated attack on an application, network or system, carried out by security specialists to find weaknesses before real attackers do. Unlike an automated vulnerability scan, a pen test has people chaining issues together to show what an attacker could actually reach.

Why it matters for your business

It shows the real risk behind your security gaps, helps you meet customer and compliance requirements, and lets you fix problems before they lead to a breach or lost trust.

Example

Before launching a customer portal, a company hires testers who find that a password reset flow can be abused to take over accounts, and the team fixes it before go-live.
