What is Disaster recovery?

Disaster recovery is the set of plans, backups and infrastructure that let a business restore its systems and data after a major failure, such as a cloud outage, ransomware attack or accidental deletion. It is defined by two targets: how fast systems must return (RTO) and how much data you can lose (RPO).

Why it matters for your business

Downtime and lost data cost revenue and customer trust. A tested recovery plan turns a potential crisis into a known, time-bound procedure.

Example

An online retailer keeps database backups in a second cloud region and rehearses failover twice a year, so a regional outage means a short interruption instead of days offline.
