What is Change data capture (CDC)?

Change data capture (CDC) is a technique that detects inserts, updates and deletes in a source database and passes only those changes to other systems, often in near real time. It avoids repeatedly copying entire tables, keeping warehouses and replicas current with less load on the source.

Why it matters for your business

CDC keeps reporting, search and connected systems up to date without heavy nightly batch jobs, and it helps during migrations when old and new systems must stay in sync.

Example

During an ERP migration, CDC copies each new order from the old database to the new platform within minutes, so both systems stay in step until cutover.
