What is Content delivery network (CDN)?

A content delivery network (CDN) is a distributed group of servers in many locations that stores copies of website files, such as images, scripts and videos, and delivers them from the location closest to each visitor. This shortens load times and takes traffic off your main server.

Why it matters for your business

Faster pages support conversion and search rankings, and a CDN also absorbs traffic spikes and some types of attacks that could otherwise take a site offline.

Example

A US retailer with customers on both coasts serves its product images through a CDN, so a shopper in Seattle and one in Miami both get quick page loads.
