What is Monolithic architecture?
Monolithic architecture is a way of building software where the user interface, business logic and data access live in a single codebase and are deployed as one unit. It is the opposite of microservices, where an application is split into many independently deployed services.
Why it matters for your business
Monoliths are simpler and cheaper to build and run early on, so they often suit an MVP. As a product and team grow, they can become harder to change and scale.
A startup launches its booking platform as one application on a single server, then later splits the payment module into its own service once transaction volume grows.
